2025 Report to the Community - Flipbook - Page 4
Message from
the Director
Reflecting on our journey over the past year, I am filled with immense pride in the
accomplishments here at MUSC Hollings Cancer Center and excited about major changes
coming in the next few years that will impact generations.
With expanded locations and services across the state and the addition of more cancer providers
and researchers from multiple disciplines, we are touching the lives of more South Carolinians
than ever before. The announcement of a new cancer hospital in Charleston to consolidate all
patient care services into one building, and add laboratory space into our current location, will
allow us to grow further and innovate like never before.
Our vision for Hollings is to achieve National Cancer Institute Comprehensive status in 2028.
This recognition represents not just a milestone but a transformative step toward expanding our
impact on cancer research, treatment, and care in the communities we serve.
Achieving comprehensive designation is more than a title; it signifies excellence in all aspects of
cancer science and care. It means advancing discoveries at the lab bench, translating them into
effective treatments at the bedside, and integrating community outreach to ensure equitable
access to cancer prevention and care. This level of designation demands—and validates—
our commitment to multidisciplinary collaboration, innovation, and leadership in the field of
oncology.
Our growth reflects our unwavering commitment to saving lives and reducing the burden of
cancer. However, this is not a journey we take alone. It requires the dedication of our researchers,
clinicians, and staff; the courage and trust of our patients; and the support of our community,
donors, and partners.
Thank you for your continued belief in our mission. With your partnership, we will achieve this
goal and redefine what is possible in the fight against cancer.
