PATIENT SUPPORT SERVICES
Our care extends beyond the scope of medical services to resources that help our
patients and their families deal with the social and emotional aspects of cancer.
Arts in Healing
Credentialed art and music therapists provide comprehensive creative arts therapy services to patients and
families receiving care in the hospital. Contact artsinhealing@musc.edu.
Chaplain
MUSC Hollings Cancer Center provides spiritual care to meet the needs of patients and families while respecting
their individual values, beliefs and religious orientation. Hospitalized patients can ask staff to page the on-duty
chaplain 24/7. Patients in outpatient clinics within the downtown Charleston Hollings building can ask staff to
page the Hollings chaplain at #12255.
Genetic Counseling
Our genetic counselors assist families in assessing risk, completing genetic testing and providing support
resources. Call 843-792-0745 to schedule an appointment.
Hereditary Cancer Clinic
The clinic provides a central location where
patients with mutations for any type of hereditary
cancer can get counseling and an individualized
monitoring plan focused on screening, risk
reduction and prevention. Call 843-792-0745
to schedule an appointment.
Nutritional Counseling
Individualized nutritional consultation is offered
for patients across the continuum of the cancer
experience. Ask your care team for a referral.
Onco-Primary Care
During your cancer treatment, a primary care physician is an important resource for cancer and non-cancerrelated illnesses, pre- and postoperative care, recognizing and managing care complications, and much more.
That’s why we have a dedicated primary care physician right here in our cancer center. This service is available
exclusively for our oncology patients who are newly diagnosed or undergoing treatment. Call 843-792-3451 to
schedule an appointment.
Palliative Care Program
Palliative care eases symptoms and pain to improve quality of life. Palliative care is not hospice care; it can be
offered at any stage of illness to help manage symptoms. Ask your care team for a referral.
Pet Therapy
If you see any of our canine therapists around the hospital, please feel free to stop and interact with them.
Patients or family members who wish to request a therapy dog visit can ask a care team member or contact
Therapy Animal Program Coordinator Cathy C. Bennett at 843-792-7360 or bennetca@musc.edu.
